A SHORT STORY ON HOW CATNIP BUDZ
CAME INTO BEING...

One steamy July afternoon, I was sitting in my kiddy pool, sipping an umbrella drink and wondering what the rich people were doing.

I noticed several bees flying around me. They were moving back and forth between two very tall catnip plants, of which my blue pool sat smack dab in the middle. The plants were in full bloom, with extremely fragrant (and vaguely familiar looking) flowers.

I picked a few buds, and days later, I presented them to my feline friend, Bogart.

Now Bogart was well-named because he was a tough sell for anything. Black as coal tar, he had a finicky appetite and an attitude as big as Montana. Pet store catnip never earned so much as a glance from him.

But one whiff of the dried catnip buds (of which even I could smell), and he was transformed. His cat-itude was entirely rearranged. Instead of my aloof little jaguar, he was a purring bundle of squirming, furry love.

"Powerful stuff!" I thought...and quickly harvested the rest of the "crop" in my backyard.

My first batch sold out in 10 minutes. I knew I was onto something (and so did Bogart, who now wrapped himself around my catnip-scented body at every opportunity.)

It took far longer to develop a cat toy strong enough to keep Catnip Budz from flying all over my living room. Bogart tested several prototypes. We finally settled on a Velcrotm closure bag made of 10 oz. cotton duck canvas. Unlike cheaper pet store bags, it was reusable and Bogart could beat it for weeks without spilling one speck of Catnip Budz.

Catnip Budz and Budz Bags have been around for years now, and I still plant, pick and package every one. (OK -- Mom helps me sew sometimes.)
